Month In Review - June 2020

Just in case you’re finding it difficult to keep track of the day & month (how many times since lockdown have you asked “What day is it again?” when pondering a 5pm gin and tonic), we’re here to help.

In order to help keep important Compass news, dates and events in check, we are keeping you up to speed via our new Month In Review blog.

Anything news worthy, interesting, culturally enriching, or just a bit funny, will be here to keep you in the monthly loop. And links to Instagram dog accounts of course, this will be essential for morale…

June has been a belter. What started off looking like it would be slow and steady turned into a barely controlled race to the finish line but as ever, Compass was the very image of a flawless metaphorical swan gliding seamlessly across Tannoch Loch eyeballing a toddler’s sandwich.

COMMS IN A TIME OF CORONA

As a team we are used to keeping it tight from a distance and these last few months have been no different. Zoom calls, WhatsApp message groups, Skype & answering on the Apple Watch when out for a run are our daily bread and butter, but adding in the renegade kid-zoom-bombs, snack making and trying to remember to change out of your pyjama bottoms (Editor: That’s just you, Jo) have added new layers to the rich tapestry.

None the less, thanks to this strange new and unexpected 2020 quarantine landscape, we have been enjoying road testing and trying all sorts of new comms and digital marketing software to pass advice and tips onto our house-bound clients, the Compass FB group and all interested parties. Check out our Facebook group for all the most up to date posts and top tips.

NEW FACES

Speaking of team, there’s two new faces at Compass HQ and we are delighted to welcome them into the rogue’s gallery.

First off, Gill Hugo joins us as an Analyst and Business Consultant. We have worked with Gill freelance on several projects in the past and we are delighted that she has joined us our full time operations.

Victoria Devane brings her Modern Major General Level strategic skills and Business Development acumen. She will be an incredible asset to Compass moving into new fields and we know she is already rolling her sleeves up.

See more on our team page.

SCOTTISH ATHLETICS REACHES FOR THE SKY

With planning permission granted for sites in both Perth and Dundee, and with lockdown restrictions easing, we were excited to see our long gestating murals project with @scottishathletics and @artpistol start to come to life. Locations have been selected, planning granted, paintbrushes primed and we will be waiting with bated breath to see both Eilish McColgan and Eilidh Doyle writ large, becoming very literally the national athletics giants that they are. Watch this space for the full, spectacular, picture as it comes to fruition.

LOCKDOWN LEARNING

Pressing pause on the majority of activity in our lives these last few months has led to a huge national learning curve. Whether increased activity and huge statistical increases in active health across Scotland, or deploying new chunks of free time to learning new skills, lockdown has had us all striving to improve.

According to the Office of National Statistics, exercise, gardening, watching TV or streaming services and reading all had massive statistical improvements across the country. Fitness apps alone measured more than a million downloads across the UK throughout the first two months of lockdown. And who didn’t do, at the very least, the first week of PE with Joe?!

We’ve all tried hard to fill our time wisely and here at Compass, we’ve been no different and while our love of fitness is already documented (check out our previous all-action blogs), we’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of excellence in screen time and reading output.

Here are our top picks from June:

SUCCESS IS ALL ABOUT PREPARATION

While we are still carefully easing our way out of lockdown and into new operational landscapes, we are working hard to help clients find their way into new modes of thinking. Whether you have a customer facing business, digital online operations or just work from the comfort of your own laptop, how you interact with clients and consumers will change drastically over the coming months. While guidelines and suggested protocols may be slow in becoming clear, it is still possible to prepare your business for these new challenges.

Digital and online operations, portfolios and campaigns are our wheelhouse, and helping you to find new markets, our favourite destinations.

Across many industry sectors and niche markets, we are becoming experts in pivoting and finding new paths, and while we are still learning more about what’s to come, we are sure we can help you navigate these new routes to market.

If you’re unsure about finding your way forward, about operational changes or just new help translating new legislation, get in touch and see how we can help. Alternatively, join our FB group here and you might find the information you’re looking you need or a like-minded colleague.

 AND FINALLY!

We promised you morale-boosting dogs, and we won’t let you down.
